Bone Marrow Registry this Sunday!
Dear Friends,
This SUNDAY, April 19th, is a real opportunity to help save someone's life. This Sunday there is a free bone marrow drive. Larry Hirsch, marrow recipient and survivor and Rabbi Kahn 2 time donor with both be there to support the drive and answer questions. To be registered in the directory, all you have to do is have a swab of the mouth. You must be between 18-60 years old, in good health, and be willing to donate bone marrow if you are selected for a person in need. Most recipients are cancer patients and many are children. This sponsored event is free, however funding is limited and it costs $52 to be added to the registry; they ask you consider making a $25 tax deductible donation to "The Marrow Foundation" to offset costs. You can learn more at marrow.org.
The drive is at Congregation Beth Israel, on the corner of 56th Street and Shea Blvd. (10460 N. 56th St, 85253) from 9am-12pm, Sunday, April 19th.
I am on the registry and my mother is a cancer survivor.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jolene Kuty

BPA: Bisphenol A
BPA: Bisphenol A
I've seen BPA pop up on the major TV networks. This is not a new problem, just a new news story. BPA makes plastics soft and is used in many of our commercial products such as baby bottles, water bottles, DVDs, and most of our household containers. It's use has been banned or regulated in most European countries because BPA leaks into the containers contents. It’s heightened by heating the plastic or putting hot or acidic contents into the plastic. BPA plastics are sometimes marked with the non-recyclable 7 symbol. This week’s study showed 93% of people contain traces of BPA. Those persons with the highest levels had twice the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Buy BPA free products, especially those for babies. Use glass containers for left-over and to-go food. Don’t heat food with plastic wrap or in plastic containers. Exercise and healthy eating along with hydration and multi-vitamin & multi-mineral supplementation help fight the negative effects of these and other toxins. Talk to Dr. Kuty about a specific health program to detoxify and increase your health potential.
Amazing Shoes!
Today's society is extremely high fashion and style conscious but looking your best may not always be the best thing for you. Runway models have perfected the "walk" but for most of us, popular shoes can create foot, leg, back, and neck problems.
High heels alter the balanced position of the body and change the weight distribution in the foot. This increases the normal forward curve of the back and neck and causes the pelvis to tip forward. This encourages your hamstrings to shorten. And, these imbalances increase your chances of toe problems, heel and foot pain, and bunions.
I recommend looking for a shoe with a supportive sole that has some give. A good arch support helps too. Your toes are not symmetric so look for a wide toe box with space for all your toes. And last, look for a heel support in back and strap support across the ankle. Following these tips, you can be fashion forward and health smart.
Did you know that we work on foot problems in our office? We adjust the bones in the feet to help alignment and have many techniques to work on the muscles and other tissues in the foot. Many of our patients have been helped with foot pain, plantar fascitis, and foot neuropathies.
